THE INFORMATION SOCIETY

1- industrial society refers to a society with a modern societal structure. Such a structure developed in the west in the period of time following the industrial revolution. Pre-modern, or Pre-industrial society are also called agrarian societies. Industrial societies are generally mass societies.

Industrial society makes urbanization desirable, in part so that workers can be closer to centers of production, and the service industry can provide labor to workers and those that benefit financially from them, in exchange for a piece of production profits with which they can buy goods

Industrial society is characterized by the use of external energy sources, such as fossil fuels,

to increase the rate and scale of production

-An information society is a society in which the creation, distribution, diffusion, use, and manipulation of information is a significant economic, political, and cultural activity. The knowledge economy is its economic counterpart whereby wealth is created through the economic exploitation of understanding (http://en.wikipedia.org)

2- Finland has developed an information society consistently over the years. The development has been quite fast and in the beginning of 21st century Finland is one of the most developed information societies in the world. Our innovation system is working well and the competitiveness of Finland’s economy is at high level. The basis for that development was laid down over decades. Public and private R&D organizations have invested heavily in electronics and telecommunications long before the Internet and the very concept of information society existed.

In the Finnish model the role of the state has been considerable. State provides free education as well as funds for research and development, thus strengthening our innovation system. State is also strongly redistributing wealth by progressive taxation and universal social security.

Public services are extensive including good public health care and day care for every child.
Also the regulatory environment has been open to free competition in telecommunications.

(from Yu Jing)SOS! Does anyone know how to use this online learning system and if there's a way to switch the interface into English-based? wow, it almost took me 10 minutes to navigate and find a way to write this message.

(from Yu Jing)Hello, I've finished the task 1, and published it on my blog: http://yujing1985.blogspot.com/, it's not pretty good looking, for it doesn't give me much flexibility in maneuvering the layout and stuff like that.

(from Yu Jing)Hello, I've been trying to get myself familiarized with my blog, and find out that it doesn't seem to be so easy to make everything as stunning as I usually can in MSN space. And, most cool effects can only be achieved by editing in HTML mode which needs certain amount of knowledge of web designing skills. Well, I'll be glad to know if someone has any good idea about making the blog look great without much energy.

"MOBILITY IN WORK AND LEISURE"

(from Yu Jing) Hi, I've got an idea of combining a mobile phone with a remote control which can be used to control all sorts of household appliances, I've got detailed information on this idea, check my blog (http://yujing1985.blogspot.com/2008/07/task-4-mobility-in-work-and-leisure.html) and it'll be so appreciated if someone can give some comments.

(from Mauno Lempiäinen) Hello to all! I tough of an application which would combine the use of GPS and some map software. The application could be used to find who of your friends that are using the same application are near so that if user would be looking some company he/she could easily find their friends location and see what they are doing. For a more detailed explanation visit the following link: ( http://lemppari.blogspot.com/2008/09/task-3-mobility-in-work-and-leisure.html).
