Loikkaa: valikkoon, hakuun

This is the summary of the international seminar at MKFC, Stockholm, in November 2008

Please check MKFC blog page which tells about our visit at: http://www.stockholmcollege.se/

The following 3 checkpoints were made during the second seminar day:

CHECKPOINT 1: Cross-checking of the material

Healt Care material

- the check-list was considered as a good working tool

- too much text / page

- good instructions, good contextualization

- topics: are we aware of the level of expertise of the readers?

- topic "Ethics": assignment 2: this topic would be fruitful to combine with a dicussion assignment

- a recommendation for using links in the material: it is good to give a lot of links, but then instruct the students properly, for example: "have a look at the links on a general level, then choose two which interest you most and work on them according to the assignment"

Sustainable Development material

- good thematical disposition

- the introduction page will be of same format in all packages: e.g. "here you can find links to following learning objects"

- discussion area: give clear instructions as how many messages the student is supposed to send and on how many he should give comments - all assignments should be on separate pages

- the table pages should have a short instruction

- we will check if we can use tables which can be filled

- Can we use a tool which gives a description for a keyword if you move your cursor on top of it?

Hospitality material

- the learning objects will be kept separately (as separate slides in ppt)

- the instructions for the assignments will be typed with a coloured font, which will make it easier to find them

- the pedagogical function varies in the assignments. Good!

- good pictures!

Työparit tekevät tekstien korjaukset 31.1. 2009 mennessä, jonka jälkeen Ville Yli-Knuutila voi tehdä ulkoasujen yhtenäistämisen.

CHECKPOINT 2: What factors have contributed to the fact that this DIGIS-project turned out to be an example of good practice in e-learning material production?

  • PROs:
    • good project meetings
    • realistic and clear aims
    • the atmoshpere in the project is good
    • the participants feel that they are able to work on their own professional area
    • all participants are committed to do what they have promised
    • multi-disciplinary working team is a richness
    • good to have separate working days for material production; no-one has time to produce material during her ordinary workday
    • Adobe Connect Pro -sessions good to have reserved in everyone's timetable, this way it is easier to reach the aims within the given time period
    • a good project also stimulate in many other ways; the participants get constantly new ideas from each other
    • an international project allows the participants also to develop the language skills
    • good to have checkpoints where you can stop to analyse your own material, and how others experience them
  • CONs:
    • the first meeting could be shorter in order to give more time for pondering upon what the project is all about and how to organize one's own timetable
    • the funding from the educational units (at TUAS) has not been realized
