(Niina 1.12.2008) One of the challenges in writing our proposal is in describing Second life to the reader. I know I didin't understand the possibilities of operating in a virtual environment before I visited it myself.

(Niina 4.3.2009) The justification for my proposal on the project title is as follows:

Converging Cultures (yhtyvät kulttuurit, kohtaavat kulttuurit in Finnish) points to both the cross-cultural/international nature of our concept AND to the objective of encouraging to cooperation between different fields of knowledge, culture and arts.

Educational Living Lab: Living Lab points to a method of product development launched by the MIT university, which basically means an essentially user-oriented product innovation and development process; where the actual everyday needs of ordinary people fprm the basis for developing and marketing any (technological) product. A 'living lab' is thus a natural environment such as the home or the workplace of a person, not in any way restricted or controlled compared to scientfic testing methods. Here, Living Lab is the methodology of our educational development project, which aims at producing an educational package with the help and feedback of the actual subjects of the education, i.e. students of culture. Also, it is the methodology of the education itself which situates the student in cooperative tasks and environments with others - a virtual environment (such as the Second Life), acts as the laboratory where innovations and ideas are born and can be tried out.

Collaborative entrepreneurship: the term 'collaborative' refers to another essential concept, 'collaborative media' or alternatively 'social media'. It also points to the form of entreprenurship which the education promotes, emphasising the value of a social network to any entrepreneur and the value of cooperation and of internationalism.

KEY WORDS, IDEAS AND BEST PRACTICES FOR PLANNING OUR PROPOSAL

HUMAK SAMK Tallinn Stockholm TUAS Adulta(<-- enter here to view your partner's ideas!)

- e-Business: the aim is for the students to utilize the different tools of ICT in practicing their business

- Eco-business: part of the target above

- Education as a route to innovation: methodology and setting for supporting the creativity of the students

- Motivation for enrolling for the course: an access to a growing (virtual) community of cultural talent and entrepreneurship in Europe

- Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

- a 'learning community' (or a cluster?) of HEIs, entrepreneurs (reciprocal learning)

(PRACTICAL) DETAILS TO CONSIDER IN PLANNING

- Do we need an agreement of some kind between the partners that states our commitment to operating in concert as education providers as well as maintaners of the virtual learning environment?

- As annexes in the project application, should each partner organisation/department provide documentation that they intend to include the final educational product in their syllabi?
