The meeting was held only among the Finnish partners because of the GOPP methodology which requires a physical setting and close participation. The meeting started off with getting to know one another: we divided into groups and talked about our favourite things in the world. Based on these stories, we drew portraits of each other (later carefully filed by Niina).

We briefly considered our organisations' expectations, interests, role and fears with regard to the project. We will focus on these later, once our project's objectives and approach become more clear.

The Problem analysis phase began with trying to define the core problem of academic entrepreneurship / cultural entrepreneurship. The discussion produced a group of problems, and a few stood out as more fundamental than others. The idea is to get to the root of the problem without considering potential solutions. The first phase did not reach a consensus among the partners on one particular problem rising above all others. However, a very preliminary result did point to three problems which involved (1) not being able to produce a viable business idea; (2) the lack of entrepreneurial knowledge and (3) the absence of an entrepreneurship-friendly culture (in Finland/in HEIs) towards entrepreneurship. The next phases will outline a "problem tree" demonstrating causal and contentual relationships, and finally potential objectives and results of the project. (See results below)

Finding partner enterprises

For the project to be eligible for funding by the Baltic Sea Region programme it needs enterprise participation. Businesses are not funded by the programme are neither expected to financially invest in it - they are "associated partners". We all should look into our social networks and try to think of potential business partners for our project.

The next meeting is on May 5th at 13.00-16.00. Once again, we will hold a meeting with Stockholm and Tallinn separately via Connect Pro. Their comments, suggestions and questions on each phase of the GOPP process will be communicated to the rest of the group.
