Taustaa ja ohjeistusta eRapun blogin käytölle
Taustaa: eRappu kokoaa kiinnostunutta turkulaista korkeakouluväkeä vaihtamaan kokemuksia ja jakamaan tietoa e-alan kehityksestä ja innovaatioista. Alan kehitys on suuri globaali kertomus. Omaehtoisella seurannalla (jota me kaikki harrastamme RSS-syötteiden avulla) voi saada irti marginaalisen osan. Enemmän saa irti, jos tukeutuu eRapun joukkovoimaan hyödyntämällä sosiaalisen median työkaluja. eRapun käytössä on jo wiki, Facebook, Second Life ja näyteikkunana vuosittainen PVK-seminaari sekä erittäin sosiaaliset Kukko-kokoukset. Nyt sukellamme blogiin.
eRapun kehitys Kukon askelin utopiasta tieteeksi:
1. Alempana on luetteloa alan tietolähteistä. Kyseessä on kasvava, päivittyvä lista alan lähteistä. Painopiste jatkotoimissa on ulkomaisissa lähteissä. Suomessa toimii kotimaisiin tapahtumiin ja uutisiin keskittyviä palveluja , esim Virtuaaliyliopisto ja Tampereen klusteri. Linkitämme ne omaan palveluumme.
1.a. Valitse listasta yksi tai useampi itseäsi kiinnostava seurannan kohde. Lisää listaan mielestäsi tärkeä uusi kohde. Huomaa, että joitakin valintoja on jo tehty. Merkitse kohteesi omalla puumerkillä.
Tehtäväsi: seuraat valitsemasi lähteen uutisointia ja raportoit mielestäsi mielenkiintoiset ja tärkeät uutiset blogissa.
1.b. Kirjoita wikiin analyysi valitsemastasi kohteesta. Katso esimerkkeinä Educause ja The New Media Consortium. Suppeampikin passaa.
2. siirry eRapun blogiin http://www.erappu.fi/wordpress/ . Ihaile ja ihmettele ja painele nappeja. Luota lujasti blogin mottoon: KEN TÄSTÄ KÄY, SAA KAIKEN TOIVON.
Tutustu painikkeen BLOG alla olevaan ilmiöön. Sinne on jo kirjattu muutama uutinen, jotakin on myös kommentoitu. Kommentoi sinäkin.
a. Kommentoija ilmoittaa nimensä tai nimimerkkinsä ja toimivan sähköpostiosoitteensa.
b. Ensimmäinen kommentti jää odottamaan ylläpitäjän hyväksymistä.
c. Jatkossa samalla nimellä jätetyt kommentit tulevat näkyviin automaattisesti.
2.1. hanki itsellesi kirjoittajan status. Tarvitset moisen jotta voit itsenäisesti kirjoittaa blogiin.
Kohdan 1.a. mukaisesti sinulta odotetaan intelligenttejä uutisraportteja valitsemastasi lähteestä. Voit myös vapaasti olla oma itsesi, ja kirjoittaa etenkin ilmiön haltuunoton tässä vaiheessa yhtä ja toista ja varsinkin toista. Vrt. OLVI: Älä ota sitä vakavasti.

The New Media Consortium (NMC) (Jorman analyysi)
Taustaa: The New Media Consortium (NMC) is an international not-for-profit consortium of nearly 250 learning-focused organizations dedicated to the exploration and use of new media and new technologies. NMC member institutions are found in almost every state in the United States, across Canada, and in Europe, Asia and Australia. Among the membership are an elite list of the most highly regarded colleges and universities in the world, as well as a growing list of innovative museums, research centers, foundations, and forward-thinking companies.
Jäsenenä Euroopasta mm. Taideteollinen korkeakoulu (ainoa Suomesta), Euroopasta Lund, Katalonia ja Englannin avoin yliopisto.
The consortium serves as a catalyst for the development of new applications of technology to support learning and creative expression, and sponsors programs and activities designed to stimulate innovation, encourage collaboration, and recognize excellence among its member institutions. Through its many projects, its comprehensive website, and its series of international conferences, the NMC stimulates dialog and understanding through the exploration of promising ideas, technologies, and applications. Verkosto palvelee lähinnä omia jäseniään. Useita eri palveluja tarjolla. Mm.
The education and learning full-service provider for Second life, NMC Virtual Worlds (http://virtualworlds.nmc.org/about/) specializes in educational and learning-focused projects of all kinds, large and small, and provides a comprehensive palette of custom services
Hankkeita: Samoin kuin EDUCAUSE, verkosto pyörittää useita hankkeita (initiatives) Three long term, ongoing core initiatives support all the activities of the organization. These initiatives are primary strategies for accomplishing the mission of the NMC. Within each initiative, the NMC employs four strategies designed to tease out the relevant issues and find ways to address them. These strategies are to convene people around ideas; to catalyze dialog and discussion; to build community and engage people; and to contribute to the field in the form of publications, demonstration and other projects, and information archives.
Three core initiatives are 1. Dynamic Knowledge Initiative How can technology drive the formation of new knowledge, expand dialog, and fuel the exchange of ideas? At the center of this initiative are the NMC's values of collaboration and community, and the activities within it cut across the full scope of the NMC's efforts. The Dynamic Knowledge Initiative (DKI) began several years ago with an exploration of social computing and the tools that could support it, and was greatly informed by the work of Douglas Engelbart. The DKI is the impetus behind the NMC Series of Online Conferences and Virtual Symposia, as well as the extensive online social networking tools that are at the center of the NMC's website and its growing community in the virtual world of Second Life.
2. Emerging Technology Initiative How can the NMC and its members keep abreast of emerging technologies that may be important to our collective work? This initiative focuses on identifying and understanding promising emerging technologies, with the goal of applying them to the creative process and to learning. The Horizon Project is the centerpiece of the Emerging Technology Initiative, and its most visible product, the NMC's annual Horizon Report, has become one of the most widely read publications in higher education, with a readership in the tens of thousands every year.
3. New Collaborations Initiative How can we leverage the work of learning organizations outside our usual spheres to inform and enhance our own work and reach new audiences? This initiative encourages cross-sector idea sharing as a way to stimulate new projects, new partnerships, and new ways of thinking within the NMC and its partners and affiliates. As part of this initiative, the NMC looks for "fellow traveler" organizations and ways to leverage the work of such organizations with ours, using a broad frame in that analysis. Among the impacts of this approach have been new member categories and programs for museums, research centers, and foundations. Projects like Pachyderm, the Marcus Arts Education Project, and the MacArthur Series on Digital Media and Learning are all part of this initiative.
NMC and Second Life
The NMC Campus in Second Life has evolved into the largest educational presence in that virtual world, occupying the virtual equivalent of more than 500 acres. NMC ja Campus Observer –julkaisu http://sl.nmc.org/ The NMC Campus is an experimental effort developed to inform the New Media Consortium’s work in educational gaming. In early 2006, the organization made the decision to create a space for experimentation in a virtual 3-D world and began a search for suitable platforms, with a special interest in massively multi-player environments. Ultimately, Second Life was chosen, and working with an advisory board drawn from its membership, the NMC began designing a space within Second Life expressly to support collaboration, learning, insightful interaction, and experimentation — and to encourage exploration of the potential of virtual environments.

Faculty members are far too busy with discipline-area research and teaching to keep up with the rapidly evolving area of best practices in online and distance learning. Likewise, tech support staff members are overwhelmed with keeping up with installing and maintaining the technology infrastructure. In my position as director of Technology-Enhanced Learning, it is my role to track the evolving pedagogy, practices, and technologies; the challenge was to find a way to efficiently collect and disseminate relevant information to faculty and staff on a daily basis.Practice/Solution: Every morning, seven days a week, I scan a list of several dozen relevant online publications for peer-reviewed articles, news items and columns that are relevant to a mid-sized campus engaged in distance learning and actively applying technology in the teaching/learning process. I also use metasearch tools to seek articles outside my list of regular publications. I then post very brief summaries with links to the entire articles in each of two Web logs (blogs), one for online learning faculty and the other for technology support staff.
